    Temporary / Short Term Health Insurance Plans are very specific in their intended use. They are ideal to bridge the temporary time gap from the loss of your permanent coverage and or to use as a lower cost COBRA plan alternative. The purchasers of these plans are healthy, with no ongoing medical condition and would like to insure themselves against unforeseen medical emergencies. (If you have a preexisting condition you may still be able to purchase coverage for unforeseen medical emergencies but your pre existing condition will not be covered.)

  • Which temporary or short term health insurance coverages are better than others?

    Each short term health insurance policy has it own specific eligibility requirements, plan designs and coverage limitations which makes it quite difficult to compare all the plans.
  • Are you and your family eligible for these types of temporary / short term health insurance plans?

    Below are basic eligibility requirements for most short term insurance plans, requirements vary from plan to plan
    • You need to be a healthy individual
    • Between the ages of 30 days old and 64 ½ year old
    • Not currently pregnant
    • You do no have other medical expense plans
    • You have lived in the USA for at least one year, at the time of enrollment with proof of Alien Registration Receipt Card, Visa or other appropriate documentation

    Short term health insurance policies can be purchase for as short as 30 day and as long as 1 year.

  • What does short term health insurance costs for you or your family?

    Short term health insurance policies will always be a fraction of the cost of your other health plan. You can expect monthly premiums starting at $26 per month (depending on your age and what deductible and co-insurance you choose)

  • What are my payment options?

    Most plans will offer two payment options. To compare each short term medical plans payment option click here

    • Single payment option is good if you know the exact number of days coverage is needed. The minimum number of days you may apply for is 30 days; the maximum is 185 – 365 day depending on the state. Refunds are available if requested with in the 10 day free look period, (TIG select offers a 30 day free look period)

    • Monthly Payment options are used if you are unsure how long you need coverage. This “pay as you go” option gives you the flexibility to continue coverage for as long as it’s needed or simply stop payments and your coverage will discontinue once paid up coverage period ends.

      • MasterCard or Visa – If you pay you initial 35 days premium by MasterCard or Visa, each additional 30 days of coverage will be automatically charged to your account. If your temporary need ends prior to this date, simply call the insurance company and they will stop the automatic account charge.


      • Automatic Charge to Checking Account – If you choose to pay monthly by automatic charge to checking account, you must submit the first 35 day premium via check along with a separate voided check. All subsequent monthly payments will be automatically debited from your checking account. If your temporary need ends prior to this date, simply call the insurance company and they will stop the automatic account charge.

  • What if I change my mind, can I get my money back?

    Yes, all short term health insurance plans will refund your money if you are not 100% satisfied with the plan. This money back refund called (10 day free look) begins on the day your receive the policy. To compare short term health coverage plan “free look" periods click here

  • How long does it take to get coverage? (when will short term health coverage begin)

    Mailing the application: Coverage will begin the day after the application is received and approved. (Providing the application is complete and clean and premium payment is made.

    Submitting Internet application: This is the quickest way to obtain coverage, each insurance company has their own interface which allows you to securely quote and apply for coverage online.
Please note: All submitted applications are required to be complete. The applicant must meet the requirement for acceptance laid out by the insurance company and the full initial premium is received. Applications that do not meet eligibility requirements will be returned. Incomplete applications may be returned and or re-dated by the insurance company.
